Morning Moon
On display is the stoic symbolism of the solitary zebra, standing alone, outside its herd, in the vastness of its environment. The unique black and white stripes reflecting the early light of the day containing the moon, symbolizing the time of day between darkness and light. The starkness of the pale blue sky above the horizon frames the beautiful black and white striped patterns of its coat, while the fading roundness of the moon reverberates the organic sculpted form of the species, whose slender legs lock when at rest and supports and bears the weight of the rounded torso. The watchful gaze of the zebra under the still moon creates an aura of silence and tranquility, while its gaze is foretelling the anticipation of movement, sound and energy that may burst into the scene at any moment. “Morning Moon” is an image containing subtle diametric elements, night versus day, black versus white, and stillness versus patterned movement, a portrait representing the dichotomy of the harshness and beauty of the African plains.
