The faint sounds of crisp snow under padded paws mix with that of muffled breathing; these distinct sounds come to visual life in one of Durwood Coffey’s latest works of art, “Night Hunt.” The warm white breathe of the watchful Siberian tigers mix into the cold air above the snowy canopy of the vast northern Siberian landscape of Russia, exposing the approaching forms of fierce hunters on the prowl. This triad of regal tigers step lightly from the deep Asian mountain ranges and into close view, exhibiting their stealth hunting habits. The brown, black and white fur patterns of these feline warriors forge themselves into one physical visual shape, surrounded by the whiteness of the surrounding environment. Echoing the style of the Japanese print, where the whiteness of the background defines the elements and form contained within a work of art, Durwood is presenting his modified interpretation, which convincingly transports the viewer into the snowy habitat of the Siberian tiger.
