Corvus Moon Huddled under the glow of the full moon, three ravens sit curiously as a mysterious triad of winged sentinels. The artist has composed a painting that gives visual hints towards why these winged creatures have held historical significance in the creation of myth and folklore. Black on black against white may be the first response to the night life of the raven that come alive on the picture plane, but on further investigation, one finds the rich textural values of blue color that construct the formed images. Layer upon layer of differing shades of blue cascade down the bird’s feathers, bleeding onto the wooden branch below and onto the night sky above. The roundness of the light blue highlighted moon centers the triad of birds below, whose every posture conjures up the sense of curious individuality dedicated to the protection of the flock. The inherent narrative to this art becomes mirrored in its title that draws a parallel between the genus type to which these ravens belong, and the name of a small constellation of stars in the southern hemisphere that they sit under the Corvus.
